Las Vegas Children's Museum

Kirk and Scott and I went to the Las Vegas Children's Museum and the zoo with Shellie's family over the weekend. The zoo is just a little thing - but that was perfect for the little kids with lots of petting, feeding and chasing animals. The children's museum was a great place with two floors full of interesting things for kids of all ages to do. George's brother Alan and his kids came (Alan especially loved the wind chamber hair effects), and so did George's Mom Flory. We all had a great time!

Made in the Shade

When our kids were little the travel porta-potty was an empty milk jug (Kirk didn't even want to stop long enough to find a tree). Now days Shellie's kids have it made in the shade.

Abby's Three!

We had such a fun weekend in Las Vegas with Shellie's family celebrating Abby's Birthday. Can't believe she's three - wasn't it just the other day we were there for her big 2-yr old bash? This is her first school picture - preschool that is. She looks like she could be five or six in this picture. We gave Abby a CD with Mickey Mouse songs on it with her name sung in every song. Shellie said she loves singing it and gets a big kick out of hearing her name sung by Mickey. It should get her all psyched up for Disneyland this summer.

Fiddler on the Roof

Shellie and I travelled to Salt Lake to watch our good friends from our Kearns days, Steve and Jonathan McBride in Fiddler on the Roof at the Hale Center Theatre. The production was wonderful and Steve and Jon did a great job. They have performed at the Hale Center many times - pretty talented guys!

Time with Family "Up North"

Kirk, Scott, Brian and I all journeyed north for a dual celebration of Grandpa and Grandma's 63rd wedding anniversary and Grandpa's 86th birthday. We met Grandpa and Grandma and 30 other family members at Scaddy's in Salt Lake for lunch (thanks Brent!). Grandpa is still in his money-giving mode: this time everyone (regardless of gene percentage) got $10, with a promise of $10 more at Grandma's birthday party in July. Brent and Ben continued the generosity by giving up their two seats to the Jazz/Hornets game that night. So Scott and I joined Grandpa, Glenn and Sean at the Energy Solutions Arena for the Jazz blowout. My Dad and I had seats center court 19 rows up - they were great! Glenn, Sean and Scott had seats in the nosebleed section. We teased Glenn that people would think he was a General Authority or some such VIP wearing A SUIT to a basketball game (he was coming back from the temple, running late - so decided to come straight to the game). But he quickly assured us that no such mistake would be made since you wouldn't find many honored guests in the nosebleed section! Kirk and my Mom stayed home to watch the BYU/Kansas State game on TV - they didn't have nearly as much fun as we did. The next day Kirk and I joined Mom and Dad at church - in our old ward, and we ended up seeing people we hadn't seen for over 30 years. We were able to visit with two of my former Bishops, my former young women's MiaMaid leader, and parents of some of my old friends. It was great. Mom and Dad really enjoyed it too, since they had been divided off from that ward since I left for college. It brought back great memories for us all.

Red Cliffs Hike

It was a gorgeous day in Dixie and a great day for a hike in the Red Cliffs with Brian and Emily. They came down for a quick trip to get some sun. Brian and I wanted to show Emily one of the fun hikes we used to do a lot when the kids were little. When we got to the first little pool, I could just picture the way the kids and their friends used to jump off the red rocks into the water. We always used to pack a picnic lunch and eat there while the kids cooled off. Those were the days! It was a great day for a hike down memory lane.
